Herbal teas, a natural source of benefits

Once used in traditional medicine, herbal teas have long been discredited. But now they're back in vogue: drinking herbal tea is a healthy break and a relaxing bubble in your busy day!

In contact with hot water, medicinal plants release active ingredients with multiple virtues: they relieve digestive disorders, stimulate the kidneys and liver, and invigorate a tired body. Combined, they create balanced synergies where flavors and benefits complement each other.

In this article, discover 3 special post-holiday infusions to restore energy and lightness.

1. Detox herbal tea

Feelings of heaviness and fatigue, extra kilos, digestive discomfort and unpleasant breath are all common discomforts after the heavy meals of the end of the year. To help the body eliminate accumulated toxins through its main emunctories, this herbal tea relies on medicinal plants with multiple benefits.

Rosemary leaves and milk thistle seeds stimulate the liver and promote hepatic activity, while fennel seed, with its antispasmodic properties, and lemon, with its cleansing power, relieve bloating and intestinal pain.

For optimal detoxification, cherry stems, linden sapwood and dandelion complete the recipe with their diuretic and depurative action on the urinary tract. In terms of flavor, the bitterness of dandelion and linden sapwood is softened by the fresh, aromatic notes of rosemary, fennel and lemon, adding a balanced touch of citrus, resin and anise.

Preparation

Ingredients: 3 fennel seeds, 8 cherry stems, 3 tablespoons lime sapwood, 4 teaspoons romarin2.5 teaspoons milk thistle seeds, 6 teaspoons dandelion root, slice of lemon, 1 liter water.

Mix the ingredients and pour the boiling water over them. Cover, leave to infuse for 20 minutes and strain.

Consume 3 to 4 cups a day to soothe digestive disorderss, stimulate liver activity and detoxify the body.

This tea is contraindicated for people suffering from obstruction of the bile ducts (stones).

2. Digestive herbal tea

If New Year's Eve meals have left you with heartburn, bloating or a disturbed digestive system, certain plants can help you get your digestion back on track.

Licorice, for example: beyond its pleasantly sweet flavor, acts as an antispasmodic and contains saponosides, such as glycyrrhizin, which promote the production of gastric mucus, thus reducing stomach acidity.

Lemon balm et yarrowMint, with its phenolic compounds, stimulates digestive juices, soothes painful intestinal inflammation and combats aerophagia.

Finally, mallow, rich in mucilage and polysaccharides, creates a protective texture on contact with water, lining the weakened intestinal mucosa and increasing stool volume for improved transit without damaging the intestine. An infusion with the fresh aromas of mint and lemon balm, enhanced by the sweet taste of licorice.

Licorice

Preparation

Ingredients for 100 g of herbal tea: 20 g yarrow, 20 g licorice, 20 g mint, 20 g lemon balm, 20 g mallow.

Put a teaspoon of the mixture in a cup of boiling water. Cover and leave to infuse for 10 minutes.

Drink 3 cups a day, one after each meal, for 12 days. This tea is not suitable for people with high blood pressure, due to the presence of licorice.

3. Tisane anti-fatigue

As we all know, the Christmas vacations are not a restful time, and the return to work at the beginning of January is often a trying time for the body. Difficulty getting up in the morning, difficulty concentrating during the day, irritability... These signs of fatigue can weaken the body and make it more vulnerable to airborne viruses and bacteria.

It is therefore essential to take care of your lifestyle:

  • Adoptez une alimentation équilibrée riche en vitamines et minéraux.
  • Go to bed an hour earlier.
  • Consider supplementing with vitamin D or a cure of magnesium

In addition, regular consumption of a remineralizing herbal tea can help revitalize the body. This recipe uses stinging nettle and alfalfa, rich in iron, calcium, trace elements and silica. Fresh ginger, with its gingerols (powerful antioxidants), adds a spicy touch and a "kick-start" energizing effect.

Finally, eleutherococcusan adaptogenic plant, has been studied in numerous clinical studies which suggest its effectiveness in combating fatigue linked to stress. An invigorating and revitalizing plant blend to start the year off right!

Preparation

Ingredients for 100 g of herbal tea 40 g stinging nettle leaves, 30 g eleutherococcus root, 30 g alfalfa leaves, 2 slices peeled fresh ginger.

Boil 2 tablespoons of the dried herb mixture in 50 cl of water for 3 minutes, then add the ginger slices and leave to infuse for 10 minutes before straining.

Drink this herbal tea before 3 p.m. to avoid disrupting sleep, for 3 weeks, then repeat the cycle if necessary after a week's break. This herbal tea is contraindicated for pregnant or breast-feeding women, due to the "estrogen like" action of eleutherococcus and alfalfa.
