Oil pulling: a good idea?

Do you know the "Oil pulling"? Literally in French les bains de bouche à l'huile which means oil mouthwash. It is a simple way to detox, strengthen gums, whiten teeth, reduce plaque, prevent cavities and relieve nasal congestion. That's all!

Oil Pulling: a simple, easy and effective technique!

At the change of seasons and especially in the spring and fall, in natural health care circles, we regularly hear about detoxing, detoxing or detoxing. For some, this is akin to a fad. However, only a few hundred years ago, our great-grandmothers still advocated purging, fasting or dieting (Lent for example) at the change of season or after busy festive periods.

Under other horizons, in countries such as India or in some Slavic countries of Eastern Europe, one still practices daily ablutions or gestures of body hygiene such as "Oil pulling", nasal shower or even tongue scraping in order to remove certain toxins from the body on a daily basis.

This ancient method that comes directly to us from Ayurvedic hygiene care has been brought to the forefront again by Dr. F. Karach of the Ukrainian Group of Oncologists and Bacteriologists. In particular, he recalled the benefits at the Congress of the Academy of Sciences of the Soviet Union in the 1990s.

Although mouthwash is particularly recommended for those affected dental problems chronic or a significant alteration of the intestinal flora, it can be practiced by all without any restriction, because in addition to dental and oral hygiene, it brings real benefits on the whole body.

How does Oil Pulling work?

This "oil pulling" is done in the morning on an empty stomach using safflower, olive, sunflower, sesame or even coconut oil. It allows natural elimination of toxins and toxics.

Remember that in the naturopathic jargon, toxins are considered to be all the metabolic waste produced by normal cellular functioning. For their part, toxics encompass all the "poisons" that contaminate our bodies on a daily basis. It can be the (polluted) air we breathe, the food additives we swallow in our food, the chemical molecules present in the cosmetics we use during our daily cleansing, the medicines (only made of chemical molecules that clog up) or the vaccines and anaesthetics we may have undergone.

All of this can be partly cleaned up by this simple practice of oil mouthwash. Contrary to mouthwashes practiced with chemical pharmaceuticals, which also clog the body, natural vegetable oils do not present any toxicity or risk of intolerance.

It should be noted that in general toxins and toxins have a particular affinity for fatty acids. The oral mucosa very thin and therefore very permeable is richly vascularized, and this, especially under the tongue. It is for these two reasons that this simple oil mouthwash is a powerful toxic trap.

It may come as a surprise, but this is how the spit oil contains a large amount of microbes, bacteria and toxic particles that it is best to eliminate in order to prevent them from accumulating in our bodies.

Other benefits of oil pulling

This treatment also provides a long-lasting dental protection effect thanks to the thin, oily film left on the tooth enamel. This protective film prevents sugars from sticking to the surface of the teeth.

The many people who practice oil pulling on a daily basis over a long period of time have also been able to see a net improvement in their overall health. These testimonies were told by people suffering from various health problems such as fibromyalgia, joint pain, skin problems or recurrent intestinal disorders.

How to practice oil pulling?

  • Ideally, oil pulling should be done every day, in the morning before the first food intake.
  • It is recommended to chew the equivalent of one tablespoon of oil. It must be chewed and circulated to every corner of the mouth without missing any, and this for 15 to 20 minutes.
  • Gargling moves can also be performed to extend the disinfecting action to the entrance of the throat. At the beginning, it is a real exercise of musculation of the chewing muscles and cheeks. Once the time has elapsed, the spit oil normally has a creamy, white appearance. If the oil is still a little yellow, it is probably because the time of the mouthwash was too short. So you'll still need to practice!
  • A single oil can be used, but there are alsoready-made oil blends. These oils are sometimes coupled with disinfectant essential oils. Except if you are pregnant, you can add one or more essential oils such as peppermint or melaleuca alternifolia (tea tree) to your oil.

Most common benefits of oil pulling

Tooth Whitening

The natural antibacterial virtues of the oil provide deep cleaning of tooth enamel. Plaque no longer sticks and the oil makes the teeth shine. This technique is without a doubt one of the most effective natural methods for whitening teeth without the side effects and undesirable effects of chemical products or even baking soda, which would tend to "attack" the enamel over the long term. Practiced regularly in form of a cure, Oil Pulling truly acts as a whitening care for a Hollywood smile.

Better oral hygiene

With the combination of Oil Pulling and thorough brushing of your teeth, it is possible to overcome, or at least prevent, all oral problems. The antibacterial properties of the oil is a significant plus. This allows you to prevent the appearance of cavities and dental plaque, to relieve halitosis, gingivitis, etc... In addition, the anti-inflammatory action of Oil Pulling takes care of gums that would tend to bleed during brushing.

Increases physical and mental vitality

By removing toxins from the body, the body allows its metabolic functions to operate at full capacity with ease, without "pulling the string". Vitality rises again and with it, a better resistance to illnesses and reboosted cognitive faculties. Thus, thanks to the regular practice of Oil Pulling, you delay the effects of aging on your brain and considerably improve your ability to think, remember, concentrate, learn...

Better resistance to diseases

Many germs enter the body through the mouth. The latter is thus one of the first ways of contamination. The oil pulling coupled with brushing with homemade or fluoride-free toothpaste acts as a barrier preventing germs and toxins from colonizing and saturating the body. Do not forget that oil pulling is above all an ancestral preventive technique to maintain good health.

Relieves headaches

Some headaches, including migraines, are caused by an overloaded liver. Indeed, this organ responsible for more than 300 metabolic functions has a primary role in the filtration and theelimination of toxins. When it is saturated (inadequate diet, drugs, birth control pills, lack of sport, etc...), metabolic waste and those from chemical residues are no longer evacuated properly by the kidneys or intestines. They accumulate in the tissues. In order to maintain a certain balance, other emunctories will take over (skin, lungs, uterus). This is when skin problems appear.

Clean skin

To follow up on the previous paragraph, skin problems are seen in naturopathy as a sign of an emunctorial overload of the liver or kidneys. By taking care to eliminate toxins through the practice of Oil Pulling, you allow the emunctories to function properly. Thus, the skin is beautiful, fresh, without disgrace and the complexion luminous. Coupled with an adapted diet and a personalized lifestyle, Oil Pulling is a real beauty treatment.

Oil pulling as part of a heavy metal detox

Oil pulling has more than one trick up its sleeve. Its detox asset can also be useful to accompany a heavy metal detox. How do you know if you have heavy metal poisoning? Electrosensitivity, emotional irritability, certain forms of depression, chronic fatigue, insomnia, phantom pain, Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson's disease, recurrent herpes and many other problems are due to heavy metal poisoning. A saliva test, a trace element analysis of hair or a urine test for heavy metals can confirm or deny possible intoxication.

Where do these poisonings usually come from? Adjuvants in vaccines and dental amalgams...

Indeed, many people have resorted to "fillings". The continuous ingestion of heavy metals (mainly mercury) clogs the body in every corner (in the brain and lymph glands in particular). During a heavy metal detox and the removal of dental amalgams by a specialized dentist, oil pulling can be integrated into your detox routine with, of course, the agreement of your dentist.

This cleansing care has the advantage of being very inexpensive, simple to practice, all-natural and without any contraindications or side effects. This little disinfecting and sanitizing gesture from an oral perspective can easily be added to your daily hygiene care. It can also be practiced over a shorter period of time, during a detox cure or during a chelation of heavy metals or other chemical toxins for example.
