Despite the above seasonal temperatures, autumn is almost here. The autumn season is an energy of renewal, it is a great diversity in our kitchens by the appearance of new varieties of fruits and vegetables, it is a change of luminosity but above all, it is a return to the center. Did you know that in TCM (in traditional Chinese medicine), we are already in an autumn energy since August 15?
Introspection
Don't you have the impression that in autumn, as night falls faster, we have an easier time centering ourselves, taking more time to rest, relax and find ourselves in the evening under a blanket with a hot chocolate (with vegetable milk and raw cocoa) in our hands? Most of us will be carried away by the energy of fall and the refocusing that this season brings. But in the end, we do nothing more than follow the rhythm of nature: The trees fall asleep, the days are shorter, the leaves fall, the sun rests and invites us to do the same.
Indeed, the sun, this ACTIVE phase of our life, this YANG part of our being The YANG is that energy of action that emanates from the sky and slowly moves towards the earth, towards our roots and our need to balance our YIN, emanating from the depths of the earth. Autumn then pushes us to fully develop that inner person within us, to look inside ourselves at what is going on there, to appreciate who we are with awareness and value and to respect ourselves in our impermanence and wholeness.
In autumn, dare, without fear or guilt, to feel sadder and less jovial emotions, more in nostalgia and return to oneself. In TCM, autumn is linked to the lung organ, which is linked to the emotion of sadness...
Everything is fair and aligned. Just allow yourself to live it fully.
Purification
Whether it is for the physical, mental or emotional body, the key word for autumn is purification. Very often, this period is associated in naturopathy with the Detox cures that we often hear about (to be done only with a personalized accompaniment) because the body needs to eliminate toxins and toxics to make room for a purified and healthy body. We return to the essential, to the earth and to pure energy.
For the purification of the body, we prefer seasonal plants, which can help the body to evacuate. One can, in this spirit, engage in a birch sap cure, practice a grape cure or drink herbal teas that will stimulate the bodies to natural self-purification (Milk Thistle, Artichoke, Rosemary, etc).
In the same vein, we'll take the opportunity to purify the house: open the windows and doors wide in the morning to let out what no longer needs to and allow a fresh breath to enter the home. Why not take advantage of this time to diffuse essential oils or sanitize the house with Palo Santo wood, for example.
Resource & Inner Creation
Generally, in autumn, we can allow ourselves to take advantage of this period of retreat to go to bed earlier and to position ourselves more in phase with the solar cycle. Also, sports activities can be more gentle, focused on breathing (meditation, yoga, pilates, taichi, etc...) where the lungs will be highlighted: Let's opt for a work on the ENT sphere but also on the diaphragm - a very important muscle in a holistic path towards well-being.
Do not hesitate to use olfactory essential oils for a global work on your physical body (ENT) as well as for an action on your emotions. (eucalyptuspine, ravintsaracajeput, etc...)
Thank you to the Earth.
From a spiritual point of view, the autumn period is a time of thanksgiving for all that has been harvested in the spring and summer. It is time to thank the earth for its gifts. It is also a time for creation. Why not take this time when darkness comes faster to spend creative evenings writing, drawing, creating an art project or why not just read and activate your imagination?
Living with the rhythm of the seasons means allowing your body to fully experience certain feelings, both physical and emotional. Be in agreement with your needs because it is essential to move forward on the path of harmony and well-being.
