This summer of 2018 is a scorcher with very high temperatures around 35 degrees with little cool or fresh air. Our European bodies are not used to such a climate and some people, from the youngest to the oldest, can experience real discomfort on a daily basis. Indeed, even at night, temperatures do not decrease and some health problems can occur as the days go by. Since the weather forecast does not predict cooler weather for several weeks, it is really time to find solutions to live this hot period more serenely.
The air conditioning?
Putting an air conditioning cooling system in the house is a dream solution, but in everyday life, it is not at all recommended. Indeed, living in an air-conditioned room is not ideal for the environment because of an overconsumption of electricity but also for the health because the individual breathes a not pure air while undergoing harmful variations of temperatures. The body will constantly try to adapt and it will tire its metabolism. Nevertheless, the fresh air is obviously a dream when you suffer from the heat wave, but other solutions are possible.
Peppermint hydrosol - "Mentha piperita"
Failing to use essential oils that require some knowledge of the subject, the use of hydrolats is more suitable and equally effective. Peppermint hydrolat is popular and moreover recognized for its capabilities on the digestive sphere that it facilitates through its pancreatic stimulating action. But when the heat is on, peppermint hydrosol becomes an indispensable ally.
Indeed, it is refreshing, what could be better in hot weather! It also soothes heavy legs, a common problem in hot weather, because it stimulates the lymphatic and venous system.
How to use it? Simply by spraying the body directly with this hydrosol. Indeed, transfer the hydrolat into a bottle with a spray pump and refresh the body as easily. The neck, forearms and legs are parts of the body that appreciate this refreshing stimulation.
Everyday Tips.
- Put your feet on a tray of ice cubes - like those placed in cooler bags - wrapped in a clean cotton towel. Refreshing the feet refreshes the whole body quite quickly.
- Hydrate properly throughout the day with tempered water. Also consider that sugary soft drinks such as soda do not hydrate.
- Do not expose yourself to the sun and prefer shaded areas.
- Avoid stimulating the electrical system in your home as this creates energy and therefore heat. Do not leave lights on or plugs plugged in if you do not need them. Also avoid, as much as possible, the abusive use of computers, PCs and smartphones that produce a lot of heat.
- Use a fan to cool off.
- Air out your house or apartment early in the morning or in the evening when temperatures drop, make a draft to renew the air in your home. When the sun hits your windows, close the blinds or curtains.
- Avoid a heavy diet that would require a greater digestive effort. Eat light as often as possible, favouring fresh fruits and vegetables in season.
- Wear loose, light-colored clothing rather than dark, body-hugging garments that compress the lymphatic system and make you feel hot.
Taking care of yourself during hot weather is a priority for your overall well-being. In fact, some companies allow their employees to end the day early to respect the body's metabolism which needs a lot of rest in view of the body's energy expenditure. If you are at home, don't skimp on the afternoon nap which will be very beneficial.
