Hives are very common, affecting 20% of people. It is a skin rash with raised, red, disturbing patches caused by edema of the dermis. The plates are generally rounded or annular, with a clear center in the latter case. These plates are erased by pressure. The elements are very changeable, rapidly increasing or decreasing in area, often fading within hours.
There are many varieties of urticaria such as contact urticaria, physical urticaria, systemic urticaria, genetic urticaria and finally common urticaria, which is by far the most common, sometimes with a detectable cause (food, medication, infection), but most often without apparent cause.
The most common is acute urticaria, which accounts for about 75% of cases, often of allergic origin. The remaining 25% are represented by chronic urticaria which is only 10 times out of 100 of allergic origin (Guinnepain, 1996).
There is a much more serious form of hives, called angioedema. It is an aggravated form of urticaria, because in addition to the edema of the dermis, there is edema of the subcutaneous tissue or hypodermis.
There are many treatments for hives that only address the outward manifestation. Unfortunately, from a dietary point of view, the results are not very encouraging, as an improvement is only observed in 5% of cases.
However, the elimination of pasta-based foods (bread, pizza, pasta) and yeast will overcome most of these problems, but any deviation will be quickly punished by a resumption of the symptoms.
A large number of hives are due to infections caused by candidas albicans. Indeed, with hindsight and experience, we have found that a very large proportion of our populations suffer from chronic candidiasis and are unaware of it. Among the most common manifestations of these candidiasis are urticaria and skin pruritus. The proliferation of these undesirable bacteria within the intestinal flora is clearly favored by our unbalanced diet, too rich in sugar, yeast and refined products.
Generally, the reconstitution of the intestinal flora accompanied by an anti-candidosis treatment gives excellent results, but in parallel it is essential to act on the immune system in order to avoid such proliferation in the future.
