Healthy and natural thirst-quenching drinks to sip in summer

During the hot summer days, what a pleasure it is to refresh yourself with a thirst-quenching drink! However, for your health, perhaps it would be interesting to bet on healthy preparations and limit (or even abandon) sodas, industrial fruit juices, alcohol? Discover some refreshing drink ideas that are good for you!

1.    Le kombucha, l'allié de vos intestins

If you do not suffer from candidiasis, kombucha should become your daily ally. This sparkling drink is the result of fermentation of green tea yeast. It is prebiotic which means that it nourishes your microbiota (oral and intestinal). There are many varieties and flavors: ginger kombucha, lemon kombucha, pomegranate kombucha, etc...

To keep in a cool place, 1 glass per day of Kombucha is enough to maintain your flora. The whole family can benefit from it and at any time of the day or night!

2.    Le bissap, un goût d'Afrique à la maison

Bissap is a thirst-quenching drink commonly found throughout West Africa. Prepared with infused hibiscus flowers, it is flavored with lemon, ginger, sugar and sometimes a touch of pineapple juice.

In order to limit glycemic incidents, coconut sugar can replace white or cane sugar. Indeed, coconut sugar has the advantage of having a low glycemic index while having a high sweetening power in taste.

3.    Eau de fruits, pour une eau belle et bonne

Fruit water is a fun idea to quench your thirst in summer. In a large glass decanter or bottle, place fruits cut into pieces (cucumber, lemon) or left as they are if they are small (strawberries) and let them infuse cold. Not only will you have a "homemade" flavored water with no added sugar, but also a carafe that will be a sight to behold for your guests!

A variation would be to add herbs or edible flowers from the garden: verbena, red clover flower, lavender, mint... and/or ginger, turmeric, a stick of licorice or cinnamon...

Anything is possible! Your children will be delighted to experiment with new combinations!

4.    Ice Tea « home made », du thé glacé fait maison

Industrial beverages do not reveal the list of their composition. Often too sweet, containing additives, they are a scourge for your health and that of your children. By preparing your own infusion in advance, with the flavors and ingredients you want, you take back control of your health. You can thus target the plants and spices that you will use in your preparation to potentiate your health. Thus, mint is cooling, lemon is hepato-tonic (beware, it is not suitable for everyone!), ginger is a booster, cinnamon improves digestion, lemon balm brings calm and serenity, verbena relaxes tensions etc. ... Learn to enjoy your ice tea unsweetened. At first, if it is difficult for you, consider coconut sugar or honey!

5.    Boisson menthe/citron/gingembre pour un coup de boost

Fresh mint, lemon and freshly grated ginger are the winning combo to make an explosive summer drink. Its spicy flavor and thirst-quenching power make it an energizing summer drink. Ginger has the particularity to bring fire to the body, it stimulates digestion and adrenals. For all those who feel tired, this preparation will bring them energy and vitality.

6.    Les eaux florales pour des boissons vertueuses

Each floral water has its own virtues. Used consciously, they can help you relieve many ailments and improve your health. Here you can choose one according to your problematic:

  • chamomile to soothe you

  • rosemary for a liver detox

  • carrot to purify the skin

  • mint for its cooling properties

  • lemon balm to relax you

1 tablespoon for 1 liter of water is sufficient. Keep in a cool place and mix well before eating.

Pour conclure

In summer, we are naturally drawn to cool drinks. However, hot drinks such as mint tea for example are just as thirst quenching! In the Sahara, green tea flavored with fresh mint leaves refreshes while preventing dehydration. Indeed, afterwards, cold causes hot and vice versa...
