Some forms of Motilium, a drug prescribed mainly for nausea and vomiting, will be withdrawn from the market next week. This drug is blamed for causing heart problems.
Motilium (based on domperidone) is a medication for nausea and vomiting that has been marketed in France for over 30 years. Since March 2013, the European Medicines Agency has been conducting a benefit/risk study because domperidone could cause serious heart problems.
I only have 2 questions
- Why have we waited 30 years to discover these problems? did we know it before? considering what we know about the connivance between the government and the pharmaceutical industry since the Mediator affair, we can have doubts....
- How did this drug get a marketing authorization 30 years ago?
How far have we gone to authorize drugs with such side effects?
