A few details about fenugreek seeds
Visit fenugreek seeds are one of the oldest medicinal and culinary plants in human history. They are a common ingredient in South Asian dishes, and in Egypt and India they are still used in bread-making. In phytotherapy, they are used for their aperitive, digestive, tonic and anti-diabetic properties.
Mostly crushed, these seeds give offaromatic scent. Their taste is spicy and slightly bitter. Other names: senegrain, trigonella, trigonella fenugreek. Latin name: Trigonella foenum-graecum
Fenugreek seed ingredients
Sun-dried at around 30°C
Production of fenugreek seeds
Despite careful mechanical removal of foreign bodies during production, a small quantity may remain. It is therefore advisable to carry out a visual inspection, and if necessary a sorting, before each use.
No claims for refunds due to the presence of foreign matter will be accepted.
Fenugreek seed characteristics
Fenugreek seeds are high in fiber (50%) and saponins (hence their anti-diabetic action and reduction in bad cholesterol and triglyceride levels), rich in protein (30%) and mucilage, as well as minerals, vitamins and antioxidants. In particular, they contain 4-hydroxy-isoleucine, an amino acid unique to fenugreek (and totally absent in mammals) which, in animals, has been shown to stimulate insulin production and improve the body's sensitivity to this hormone, as well as reducing blood cholesterol and triglyceride levels.
Fenugreek contains the amino acid histidine, which is thought to counteract liver damage. One study showed a significant improvement in certain Parkinson's symptoms when treated with fenugreek extract.

How to use fenugreek seeds
- The seeds are edibleFor salads, they are best used soaked, sprouted, ground or crushed. They can also be lightly cooked. For those who don't appreciate their flavor, among other spices they are quite easily camouflaged.
- Cold infusions: soak 1 tablespoon of fenugreek seeds in 250ml of water for a few hours or overnight before drinking in the morning. The seeds can be composted, chewed, sprouted or used in cooking.
- To stimulate appetite: take 500 mg to 1 g of ground seeds, up to 6 times a day.
- Cataplasms: mix 50 g of ground seeds in powder form with 1 liter of hot water (due to the mucilaginous nature of the seeds, a paste will quickly form) and apply as a cataplasm to affected areas.
- Bath: mix 50 g of powdered seeds with 250 ml of water and dilute in bath water.
Precautions for use of fenugreek seeds
- Pregnant women should avoid taking fenugreek in excess of dietary doses (around 1 teaspoon of ground seeds per day), due to its ability to induce uterine contractions.
- Some people are allergic to fenugreek, and those with a peanut and/or chickpea allergy may have a reaction to it.
- If you have diabetes, you should inform your doctor before taking any supplements that alter blood glucose levels, so that he or she can adjust the dosage of conventional hypoglycemic drugs if necessary. You should also monitor your blood sugar levels very closely during such supplementation.
- Toxicological tests on animals indicate that fenugreek seeds are non-toxic, but prolonged external use can cause allergic reactions. Consumption of large quantities of fenugreek seeds can, due to their high fiber content, cause gastrointestinal disorders, which are generally transient. Above 4g a day, excessive cleansing of the body may occur, in which case doses should be reduced and then carefully increased again.
