Spirulina is organically grown on Hainan Island in southern China. Production begins in the laboratory and then moves on to outdoor ponds. Once the required density has been reached, the spirulina is harvested and dried using a pulverized evaporation process to obtain a powder that does not alter the nutritional value of the spirulina. This powder is then pressed into tablets.

Spirulina is rich in valuable nutrients, making it a kind of "superfood". In particular, it contains 50% to 70% high-grade protein (both in terms of composition and digestibility) and appreciable quantities of carotenoids (beta-carotene, cryptoxanthin, lutein, zeaxanthin, etc.), iron and phycocyanin (which is thought to have significant antioxidant activity).
