Everyone has heard about the benefits of antioxidant or resveratrol contained in red wine. Others claim that since it is a sweetened and alcoholic drink it is bad for your health.
So what is it really?
Recent studies show that wine consumed in moderation (1 to 2 glasses per day maximum) has another exceptional and ignored virtue.
A study published by an American nutrition clinic journal (AM J Clin Nutr. 2012; 95:1323-1334) relates that people who regularly drink two glasses of good quality red wine have higher levels of beneficial bacteria in their gut, but also fewer pathogenic bacteria. Nowadays, we know that a good balance of intestinal flora is absolutely essential for a good digestion, but also for immunity, general metabolism and skin, not to mention recent research that has highlighted the importance of this flora for maintaining a good mental and psychological balance.
It seems that the benefits of this beverage are even wider...
Another facet of this study showed that red wine drinkers also had fewer arrhythmias, less hypertension, lower triglycerides and bad cholesterol, and lower levels of CRP (blood marker protein of inflammation).
The wine drinkers in this study were compared with juniper drinkers. But these showed no comparable results to red wine drinkers.
Another group consumed non-alcoholic red wine and in this case the benefits regarding hypertension were not present.
Whether you drink Cabernet, Merlot, Pinot or Chiraz, it seems that any good red wine is significantly more powerful than dry white wines.
Another benefit of red wine related in some studies is that it tempers insulin spikes and maintains some balance in hormones that regulate appetite and weight.
Knowing that if wine allows you to add comfortable years to your life, other foods such as gluten, sugars, certain vegetable oils, an excess of meat or dairy products kill you in silence by developing an inflammatory ground conducive to autoimmune diseases, cancer, obesity or cardiovascular diseases.
