Food allergies, look for the culprit...

Look for the culprit...

Dairy products, lactose, gluten, pollen, dust mites, etc. Eczema, rhinitis, intestinal or digestive problems, migraines... Their manifestations now range from birth to over 80 years of age. The percentage of people affected has doubled in 15 years in industrialized countries, whereas in the early 1970s it was barely 5%.

In the United States, 15 million Americans, the majority of whom are children... In Great Britain, one in three people and a 50% increase between 1997 and 2011... 40% of French people have every possibility of developing manifestations... The number of people who have had severe manifestations and have had to seek emergency care has increased 40-fold in the past 10 years. While more than 50% are not diagnosed as such... The most pessimistic forecasts give them the third place among the health problems for the next decade...

As you may have guessed, this set of alarming findings concerns allergies

Many allergists even estimate that in less than 10 years, one person in two will be allergic. The allergies have taken many different forms over the past 20 years. The allergens involved, as well as their manifestations, are more and more numerous and different. Currently, 400 million people worldwide suffer from allergic rhinitis and 300 million suffer from asthma.

What are the reasons for these disturbing increases?

  • increased use of antibiotics and antimicrobials. One study showed that exposure to antibiotics early in life doubles the risk of eczema in children.
  • genetically modified foods and the use of the herbicide glyphosate (active ingredient in Roundup). Other research has shown how these products destroy gut bacteria, which promotes allergies. Clostridium is a common intestinal bacterium, but it is essential because it prevents sensitization to certain food allergens; however, it is one of the main victims of these phytosanitary products.
  • Glyphosate is not the only culprit. What makes it much more harmful is the fact that it is coupled with antibiotics included in other pesticides, fungicides and herbicides that accompany its use.

Researchers say they have identified the first case of a severe allergic reaction that has been reliably attributed to a pesticide. This is a 10 year old girl who had a severe allergic reaction after eating blueberry pie.

The culprit turned out to be a pesticide containing streptomycin (antibiotic) that had been applied to the berries. According to Dr. Anne Des Roches, this would be "the first report that directly links an allergic reaction to fruit treated with antibiotic pesticides. "

Dr. James, an allergist, says that this is a very rare allergic reaction, but that it would still be very helpful to make emergency personnel aware of this type of phenomenon so that they can intervene as quickly and effectively as possible when these types of anaphylactic reactions occur.

He said anyone at risk for allergies should have an epinephrine ampoule on hand and know how to use it. This is great advice for acute reactions, but it is far from an ideal long-term response.

For people with sensitivities or allergies, it will obviously be useful to know what foods to avoid, but this is not enough. In order to correct the immune system, to regain a balance of the intestinal flora and a good vital energy that will allow the body to better defend itself and adapt, the ideal is to adopt a completely organic diet.

This advice is especially important for young children and pregnant or nursing women, but it is the most sensible step for everyone to take in our currently polluted world.

As if this were not enough, agricultural antibiotics are also incriminated in the phenomena of antibiotic resistance and the diseases that result from it.

It should be noted that pesticides applied to fresh fruits and vegetables can also be contaminated with antibiotics if the farmer uses manure from treated cows as fertilizer for those crops.

Antibiotics are used excessively in agriculture and animal husbandry in order to compensate for the unhealthy living conditions of the animals and so that they can reach adulthood.

If vegetarianism is recommended, it seems obvious that meat eaters and consumers of animal products (eggs and dairy products) must turn to organic products. Ideally, you want to find breeders whose animals are still raised organically. This means that the animals must graze in the wild in pastures free of any fertilizers from the petrochemical industry and not receive any transgenic or chemically treated feed. Normally, these organic products should not be irradiated, should not contain any preservatives, flavor enhancers or other chemicals. They must also be certified as free of traces of GMOs, heavy metals or other contaminants beyond FDA tolerances. Pesticide residues must be below 5%.

There has been previous precedent for the link between agricultural chemicals and allergies. In 2005, a national health survey in the United States found high levels of dichlorophenol in the urine of the American population. This chemical compound comes from food and may contribute to the increase in food-related allergic phenomena in Westernized countries. In addition, dichlorophenol is also used for the disinfection of city water.
