3 essential oils to boost your immunity

Winter is coming and with it comes many little ailments and discomforts.

To protect yourself, there is nothing like boosting your immune system. Why not with essential oils?

The essential oil of ravintsara (Cinnamomum camphora L.) is excellent and contains many properties. In addition to presenting an immunostimulant and neurotonic activity, it is active against pain and pathogenic microorganisms, and clears the respiratory tract. It can be used:

  • orally, at a rate of 2 drops on a sugar or in honey, 3 times a day, in case of viral infections;
  • applied to the skin, on the soles of the feet and the chest, morning and evening, as a preventive measure, during a flu epidemic, for example;
  • in fumigation, in a bowl of hot water, 2 or 3 drops will be enough to relieve a fatty cough;
  • in inhalation, at a rate of 2 drops on a handkerchief, to release the respiratory tracts.

The tee trea (Melaleuca alternifolia) is primarily known for its antibacterial properties. This essential oil allows, not only to fight against the viruses (in particular that of the flu), but also to reinforce the immunity. It is particularly recommended in case of infections of the ORL sphere thanks to its anti-infectious and antiseptic properties. It is recommended to use it locally, by diluting 2 or 3 drops of this oil in a vegetable oil, and to apply the mixture on the chest and the wrists.

The essential oil of niaouli (Melaleuca quinquenervia) is, like Tea Tree being part of the same family, known for its powerful antiviral, anti-infectious and antibacterial properties. This essential oil is very energizing and stimulates the body's natural defenses. Moreover, it is antispasmodic and decongestant of the ORL sphere. It is effective to calm the cough and helps to eliminate the flows due to the inflammations of the mucous membranes, by its mucolytic and expectorant action. The essential oil of niaouli can be used:

  • in massage, diluted in a vegetable oil, on the solar plexus, the back, or the chest to relieve the respiratory disorders;
  • in diffusion, in a closed room, to purify the atmosphere;
  • Inhalation, on a handkerchief, very effective in case of blocked nose.

But don't get me wrong. Aromatherapy is powerful and very effective, but you won't get by on it alone.

In case of fatigue, stress or poor nutrition, the immune system inevitably weakens and, if you want to get through the cracks and avoid winter ailments, all these points will have to be taken into account. Eating organic and seasonal fruits and vegetables, relaxing and getting enough sleep are other essential aspects to get through the winter in complete serenity.
